With the announcement of the General and Regional Elections scheduled for September 1, 2025, by President Dr. Irfaan Ali, the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has publicly declared their readiness for the upcoming electoral contest. In a confident statement, General Secretary Bharrat Jagdeo embraced the news, asserting, “We are prepared to convey our vision of ongoing advancement for the citizens of Guyana.”
Jagdeo, who also serves as Vice President, emphasized the PPP’s solid track record and strategic plans for the nation’s future. Since regaining power in August 2020, he outlined significant government achievements, including an emergency budget aimed at reducing taxes and revitalizing essential economic sectors.
He highlighted the PPP’s actions in job creation, impressive growth in the oil sector, agriculture, and infrastructure, together with landmark agreements within the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) for 2030, restoring Guyana’s leadership in climate action.
Jagdeo did not shy away from criticizing the opposition, indicating their lack of a substantial record or credible promises for the electorate. He cautioned that voters could expect a campaign marked by misinformation and empty promises from the PNCR/APNU/AFC/WPA coalition.
Looking ahead to 2025-2030, Jagdeo shared an ambitious agenda featuring job creation, enhanced healthcare services, modern educational initiatives incorporating AI, and extensive infrastructure projects. “Our campaign will focus on building upon this strong foundation, ensuring all of society benefits as we reshape our nation’s landscape for a prosperous future,” he asserted.
