President Irfaan Ali has called upon Guyanese voters to back the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) in the forthcoming general and regional elections, emphasizing that a change in leadership could jeopardize the nation’s ongoing development initiatives. In a video shared on social media, he urged citizens to preserve the growth trajectory Guyana has experienced under his administration.
“I ask you to vote for the PPP/C to ensure we keep progressing towards a better Guyana,” he stated, underscoring the importance of the elections set for September 1, 2025. Ali presented various achievements of his government since 2020, highlighting advancements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, as well as increased job opportunities.
He proclaimed, “We are fulfilling our commitments and building a strong, stable, prosperous nation. On September 1, we face a choice: risk it all or continue with the PPP/C’s momentum.” Ali warned that any vote against his party could threaten these gains and criticized the opposition for what he called irresponsible claims, likening them to “grasshoppers” making empty promises.
Addressing criticisms from the APNU+AFC party regarding oil revenue, he contended that wealth derives from government choices and investments rather than natural resources alone. Furthermore, he expressed concern about the new party “We Invest in Nationhood,” cautioning that supporting them could harm Guyana’s vital relationships, particularly with the U.S., amid regional tensions.
The Guyana Elections Commission has set July 14 as the deadline for political parties to submit candidate lists.
