President Ali Launches Ambitious Five-Year Strategy for Region Nine

In an inspiring speech during the inauguration of the St. Ignatius Practical Instruction Department last Friday, President Dr. Irfaan Ali revealed an extensive developmental roadmap for Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo). Highlighting achievements since 2019, President Ali noted that the presence of Indigenous fire and police officers has surged due to improved access to secondary education, reflecting the government’s commitment to Indigenous empowerment.

The St. Ignatius centre aims to provide not just academic education but practical skills, preparing students for future careers in diverse sectors. President Ali outlined the expected demand for local specialists to support renewable energy projects, underlining the necessity of skill-based education.

Furthermore, he discussed economic integration efforts, including the nearing completion of the Linden-Lethem Road and future infrastructure like a Regional Municipal Airport in Lethem to enhance trade connections with Brazil and the wider Caribbean.
