
Under the evening sky, President Dr. Irfaan Ali addressed a large gathering at the People’s Progressive Party/Civic rally in Anna Regina, highlighting his government’s commitment to transformative growth and sustainable development in the Essequibo region. His speech, delivered alongside notable party leaders, painted a vibrant picture of progress for Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
Dr. Ali emphasized the importance of safeguarding Guyana’s sovereignty while focusing on enhancing critical areas such as infrastructure, health, education, and agriculture tailored specifically for the local needs. He urged voters to consider the significance of their choices on September 1, proclaiming that their vote was a vote for the nation’s integrity.
Highlighting a long-term vision, he stated, “Development is not only about the present but also about planning for future generations.” He noted the need for sustainable policies that yield lasting benefits, which resonated with the enthusiastic crowd.
Focusing on education, Dr. Ali outlined initiatives to provide quality opportunities for Essequibo’s youth, including an array of scholarships and the establishment of training facilities for nursing and engineering within the region. He reiterated the government’s support for local rice farmers through comprehensive agricultural plans, emphasizing enhanced drainage, irrigation systems, and modern farming equipment.
By proposing a collaborative fertiliser plant and improved market access, Dr. Ali assured the audience of efforts to increase farmers’ incomes and create a dignified farming experience. “We aim to modernize agriculture to promote pride and honor in local farming,” he declared.
