In a robust address during the launch of his re-election campaign, President Dr. Irfaan Ali cautioned citizens against the temptation of vote buying, characterizing such practices as an affront to the inherent dignity of every Guyanese. He stressed, “Your vote is your dignity,” and emphasized the importance of making choices that shape not just individual futures but also the future of families, communities, and the nation.
Ali specifically criticized political opponent Azruddin Mohamed, suggesting that he and the APNU Coalition are alike in their approach to undermining democratic integrity. He remarked, “APNU knows to steal elections, and Azruddin Mohamed knows to steal taxes,” referencing ongoing controversies surrounding Mohamed’s dealings with the Guyana Revenue Authority.
The President reminded his audience about the stakes involved, warning, “We risk everything we’ve built if we let selfishness cloud our judgment.” He positioned the PPP’s leadership as “tested and proven,” in sharp contrast to the opposition, which he labeled a “coalition of lightweights” that fosters division without presenting a clear vision for the future.
“When they talk about race, we will discuss results. When they seek to divide, we choose to unite,” Ali declared, urging voters to stand firm against corruption and remain committed to progress.
