During a recent live broadcast, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali highlighted that over 200 taxes have been eliminated with no new taxes introduced in the last five years. This tax reform, coupled with enhanced access to healthcare, education, and clean water, has played a crucial role in lifting thousands of families out of poverty.
Key health initiatives include the development of 12 new regional hospitals, ensuring modern medical facilities are available across all regions. The introduction of telemedicine centers has connected remote communities to advanced health networks. Additionally, the First Lady’s initiative now provides adolescent girls with free sanitary products, alleviating a significant economic strain on families.
Efforts to boost urban and rural livelihoods are evident, with subsidies, improved irrigation systems, and the establishment of farmers’ markets making fresh, affordable produce available to the public. The government has committed considerable resources to engage youth in agriculture.
President Ali emphasizes the importance of transport infrastructure, asserting that new ferries, cargo ships, and upgraded rural roads will lower transportation costs for farmers and consumers alike.
