The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) faces a significant setback with the resignation of Jermaine Figueira, a key figure within the party and Member of Parliament. Figueira submitted a succinct resignation via email to party leader Aubrey Norton on Saturday night, stating that it was effective immediately.
In his resignation, Figueira stepped down from both the party’s ‘Central Executive and Membership’ as well as his position as a Representative in the National Assembly. His email, however, did not elaborate on the reasons behind his departure.
This marks the third resignation from the PNCR in just two weeks, following the exits of Amanza Walton-Desir and Natasha Singh-Lewis. Hailing from Linden, Region 10, a stronghold for the PNCR, Figueira has been an active representative of the party, particularly engaging with youth initiatives.
His resignation follows recent changes, including the removal of his shadow portfolio for Culture, Youth, and Sport earlier this year. Under Norton’s leadership, the party has seen a wave of departures including those of Thandi McAllister, Geeta Chandan-Edmond, Daniel Seeram, and Samuel Sandy, raising concerns regarding the party’s stability.
