In a recent gathering with Belvedere residents, Dr. Ashni Singh, Senior Minister in the Office of the President in charge of Finance, emphasized the government’s dedication to delivering on its commitments to the Guyanese people. He highlighted various initiatives aimed at enhancing education, supporting families, and providing career opportunities for youth.
Dr. Singh referenced the government’s ‘Because We Care’ cash grant, which has not only been reinstated but increased to $55,000 per child, totaling up to $110,000 for families with two children in school. He announced plans to introduce transportation support for students in the upcoming school term.
Further illustrating the government’s investment in education, he noted the reintroduction of textbooks in schools and the expansion of the school feeding program, asserting, “In Irfaan Ali’s Guyana, every single child must be able to complete their secondary education.” He called for parental involvement in maximizing educational opportunities.
In a notable achievement, Dr. Singh declared the University of Guyana tuition-free, allowing students to pursue diplomas without financial burden. Recognizing diverse career paths, he pointed out the high demand for skilled heavy equipment operators, providing free training programs across the nation to meet this need.
Additionally, the government is preparing the youth for careers in the lucrative oil and gas sector with the establishment of the Guyana Technical Training College in Port Mourant. This initiative aims to ensure that young people are equipped with essential qualifications for the industry.
