PRESIDENT Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced an upcoming technology-infused initiative designed to tackle violence against women, emphasizing his government’s dedication to empowering and safeguarding women.
During the graduation ceremony for the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL), President Ali underscored the significant influence women, particularly mothers, have on society and indicated that the government is ready to take bold actions to support them. “In the coming days, I’ll be launching a new programme for women… utilizing technology to effectively combat violence against women,” he stated.
While specific details about the initiative remain limited, the President affirmed it forms part of a broader technological approach to address one of the nation’s critical social challenges. He noted that over 70% of GOAL scholarship recipients are women and encouraged attendance to celebrate this moment of empowerment.
President Ali highlighted GOAL’s transformative impact on women’s access to education, professional growth, and financial independence and praised the program for dismantling barriers of distance, cost, and self-doubt. Furthermore, he honored the dedication of women, especially mothers, in their pursuit of education, recounting his own mother’s relentless efforts during her university years.
He concluded by emphasizing the government’s commitment to fostering an environment where the advancement of women positively influences families and communities, stating, “As you rise, your family rises with you. And as you rise, make no mistake, Guyana rises with you.”
