In Portland, Oregon, a planned protest shifted dramatically into a riot on Saturday, resulting in multiple arrests and several injuries among law enforcement. As tensions flared outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility, police declared an unlawful assembly amidst escalating criminal activity.
The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) reported that three individuals were apprehended following incidents of violence, clarifying that these arrests were tied to criminal actions rather than the exercise of free speech. The escalation began after a large-scale gathering known as the “No Kings” protest, initially deemed peaceful and attended by tens of thousands, devolved into chaos.
Eyewitness accounts highlighted a volatile environment with demonstrators launching fireworks and throwing rocks at federal agents. Four officers sustained injuries while attempting to maintain order during the situation. Ultimately, law enforcement secured the ICE building against the rioters.
Among those arrested were Sabian Crisantos, accused of attempting to assault a public safety officer, Tyson Kahnert, who was charged with several offenses including attempted assault and criminal mischief, and Cory Oien, arrested for theft and DUI. As authorities continue their investigations, more arrests may follow.
