The Chairman of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) and former long-standing member of the People’s National Congress (PNC), Daniel Seeram, has expressed his support for the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) in the upcoming election. He described the PNC as having become an “unattractive” party that fails to engage youth and forward-thinking individuals.
During an interview on the “Starting Point” podcast, Seeram remarked that the PNC he joined in January 2020 no longer reflects the values and standards he once admired. He lamented the sidelining of talented youth within the party and criticized its current leadership for not fostering an inclusive environment.
Seeram pointed to the treatment of the late PNC stalwart and former minister, Amna Ally, as a pivotal factor in his decision to leave the party. He noted that despite her 50 years of dedicated service, her contributions were disrespected even in death, causing him to question the party’s direction.
Without clear leadership or vision from the PNC, Seeram has looked to past manifestos and guidance from veteran figures for support in regional governance. His shift in allegiance mirrors a growing trend of former opposition members endorsing the PPP/C ahead of the September 1 elections, citing the administration’s positive developments as their reasons for supporting President Dr. Irfaan Ali.
Among those joining him are Ismail Muhammad-Al-Cush, Geeta Chandan-Edmond, and other notable figures, indicating a broader realignment within the political landscape.
