Canadian and Australian warships have sailed through the Taiwan Straits, sparking strong condemnation from the Chinese military. The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has described the move as a ‘provocation’ that undermines regional stability and security.
The PLA Eastern Theater Command has deployed naval and air forces to monitor the situation and has taken measures to respond to any potential incidents. Senior Colonel Shi Yi, spokesperson for the theater command, warned that Canada and Australia’s actions send the wrong signals and increase security risks in the region.
China maintains a high state of readiness to safeguard its national sovereignty, security, and regional peace and stability. The PLA will ‘resolutely’ defend China’s interests and ensure the smooth operation of its military operations.
