As the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government embarks on its new term, Vice-President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has outlined a comprehensive plan to support families and communities across Guyana.
This initiative aims to provide economic relief, improve living standards, and create opportunities for growth and development.
The ‘Because We Care’ cash grant, reintroduced by the PPP/C government, has injected over $11 billion annually into the pockets of families, benefiting approximately 200,000 school-aged children.
Additionally, pension and public assistance have seen significant increases, while a new transportation grant is set to be implemented in the coming days.
Dr. Jagdeo emphasized that targeted support will be provided to various groups, including adults with a one-time $100,000 cash grant, and every child born in Guyana will receive a newborn grant of $100,000.
The government has also invested billions in subsidizing electricity, resulting in stable rates and reduced fuel costs. With the removal of the 50% tax on fuel, prices are expected to decrease further.
Furthermore, housing developments have seen significant growth under the current administration, with over 50,000 house lots allocated and plans to accelerate housing construction in the new term.
