Exciting developments are underway along the East Coast of Demerara, as a new 69 kv transmission line is set to be installed, replacing the old network and boosting electricity reliability. President Dr. Irfaan Ali announced the start of pile driving for this ambitious project, which forms part of the US$192M Railway Embankment Road project.
This significant upgrade aims to enhance travel times, reduce traffic congestion, and improve road safety for thousands of commuters. The new transmission line will be complemented by major upgrades to the power system, ensuring that new developments along the east coast corridor are seamlessly integrated into the grid.
The President has assured residents that concerns over access to their yards have been resolved, with new entrances already rebuilt. The project is expected to be completed by October 30 and will form part of Phase Two of the Annandale to Mahaica initiative.
Works are being executed by China Railway First Group Company Limited (CRFG) and will include upgrading Sheriff Street to Enmore, constructing new roads from Enmore to Mahaica, and widening several bridges and culverts. The project measures approximately 30.8 kilometres in length and promises to significantly enhance the overall highway experience.
