As the nation takes strides towards becoming a regional powerhouse, the Government of Guyana has launched its national agri-tourism policy, aiming to redefine the market and promote sustainable growth. Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Susan Rodrigues believes that agritourism represents a unique facet of Guyana’s tourism landscape, offering endless possibilities for experiential tourism.
Under the new policy, Guyana aims to boost its value-added opportunities by introducing farm-to-table experiences, cultural heritage, and eco-adventures. The initiative aligns with national development goals and regional priorities, including CARICOM’s agri-food system agenda and ’25 by 2030′ food security strategy.
The government is committed to developing the tourism sector through the creation of a National Agri-tourism Council, which will oversee the implementation and rollout of the policy. With a focus on diversity and inclusivity, the council aims to represent a broad spectrum of stakeholders and execute the national policy effectively.
