Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic figure of rock music, has sadly passed away at the age of 76. As the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath, he played a pivotal role in the creation of heavy metal, producing timeless classics such as “Iron Man” and “Paranoid.” Just weeks prior to his death, the beloved musician held a farewell concert in his hometown, alongside influential artists such as Metallica and Guns ānā Roses.
His family expressed their grief in a statement: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.” While the cause of death has not been disclosed, Osbourneās health had been challenged in recent years, including a Parkinsonās diagnosis in 2019.
Born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham, he dropped out of school at 15 and had a rough start before finding his path in music with Black Sabbath in the late 1960s. The band is recognized as heavy metal pioneers, with their self-titled debut album released in 1970, followed by immensely popular records throughout the decade.
After leaving Black Sabbath in 1978, Osbourne launched a successful solo career, highlighted by the 1980 album “Blizzard of Ozz,” featuring the hit single “Crazy Train.” Despite struggles with addiction, including a memorable incident where he purportedly bit the head off a bat, Osbourneās wild persona eventually transitioned into a family-friendly image through the MTV reality show “The Osbournes.”
Osbourneās health declined further after a 2003 ATV accident and a 2019 fall, leading to surgeries and ultimately a step back from touring. Nevertheless, his determination shone through in his farewell concert at Villa Park on July 5, where he performed seated but with the same exuberance that defined his legendary career.
