President Dr. Irfaan Ali recently revealed a substantial US$20 million investment earmarked for the initial phase of a new international port facility in Parika, located in Region Three (Essequibo Islands- West Demerara). This ambitious project aims to enhance the agricultural sector with dedicated cold storage, agro-processing, and packing facilities for local farmers.
During a farmer meeting in Hubu Village, President Ali emphasized that the new port will facilitate a ferry service to transport produce throughout the Caribbean, thus streamlining export operations and promoting regional trade. The port is also set to accommodate cruise liners, enhancing tourist access to the stunning offerings of the Essequibo tourism circuit.
This initiative is part of a broader set of development projects in Region Three, which includes key projects like the Vreed-en-Hoop Shorebase and Gas-to-Energy initiatives, positioning the area as a vital contributor to national progress. With ongoing expansions in housing and essential infrastructure, the region is on the verge of substantial economic growth.
