On Friday, Russia executed a significant drone and missile assault across Ukraine, particularly targeting the capital city, Kyiv, as well as regions including Chernihiv, Lutsk, and Ternopil. This strike resulted in the deaths of five individuals and left around 80 injured, according to Ukrainian authorities. The offensive involved the launching of cruise missiles and hundreds of drones.
According to Moscow, the attacks were a countermeasure to what they termed “terrorist acts by the Kyiv regime,” focusing on military sites. Additionally, the Russian defense ministry stated that they had successfully intercepted 174 Ukrainian drones over Russia and occupied Crimea.
This offensive follows a recent Ukrainian strike against Russian airbases. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Operation Spider’s Web had engaged over 100 drones targeting Russian warplanes at several deep military installations, effectively damaging a portion of Russia’s strategic missile capabilities.
The latest bombardment was marked as the “most massive air attack” in the Ternopil region, resulting in injuries and infrastructure damage. Amid the chaos, air raid warnings echoed through Kyiv, forcing civilians into underground shelters as intense aerial defense activities unfolded. Despite seeking peace negotiations earlier, discussions have stalled, with significant terms unmet.
Zelensky emphasized the global community’s role in pressuring Russia to cease its aggression, indicating that lack of action could imply complicity.
