The Sino-UK Financial Education Symposium, held in London, featured notable addresses from various leaders including Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Zheng Zeguang. This event took place on July 10 and included key figures such as Li Min from the Western Returned Scholars Association, Michael Lawrence, CEO of Asia House, and Sir David Quarry from HSBC, who all shared insights during the opening ceremony.
Ambassador Zheng emphasized the current instability affecting the global economy, driven by factors such as the trade and tariff wars instigated by the United States, which have disrupted international trade systems and adversely impacted countries worldwide. He reiterated the necessity for global unity against unilateralism and protectionism, stressing the importance of safeguarding multilateralism centered around the WTO and the UN.
Highlighting opportunities for collaboration, he pointed out that China is committed to a trajectory of high-quality economic growth, citing substantial figures in bilateral trade and investment between China and the UK. Notably, recent developments in green finance include China’s issuance of green bonds on the London Stock Exchange.
Ambassador Zheng also noted the significant educational exchanges between the two nations, with over 200,000 Chinese students studying in the UK and many British students participating in programs in China. He advocates for further engagement and understanding between the two countries to foster progress in various fields, therefore enhancing mutual benefits for their citizens.
