Artemis II Crew Document Lunar Impact Flashes During Mission
NASA News Releases reports that the Artemis II crew, including astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor “Ike” Glover, and Jeremy Hansen, observed five faint impact flashes on the Moon during their mission from April 1 through April 10, 2026. The complete lunar science dataset from the journey is now accessible to the public and the global scientific community.
According to NASA News Releases, NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor “Ike” Glover, and Jeremy Hansen observed impact flashes and noted their locations on the Moon. The astronauts reported seeing five very faint bursts of light, described as “pinprick” bursts, while aboard Orion, which was situated 46,000 miles from the Moon at the time. These flashes are attributed to rocky fragments striking the Moon.
The Artemis II crew traveled to the Moon and back from April 1 through April 10, 2026, during which time they gathered scientific observations and captured striking imagery of the Moon. The complete lunar science dataset generated during this mission is now accessible to the public and the global science community for further examination.
