Aston Villa Goalkeeper Zion Suzuki Expresses Confidence in Japan's Asian Cup Victory
Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki stated that he believes Japan is capable of winning next year's Asian Cup and attributed their previous quarter-final exit to his poor performances.
According to the South China Morning Post, Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki expressed confidence that Japan can secure a victory in the upcoming Asian Cup. He suggested that his 'very bad' performances contributed to Japan's elimination in the quarter-finals two years prior.
Suzuki, who has made an impression in the Premier League since joining Villa during the summer, made several errors during the 2024 Asian Cup in Qatar, which resulted in Japan being defeated in the last eight by Iran.
However, the 24-year-old believes his current form is improved and supported Japan's chances of ending a 16-year drought for the continental title when the tournament commences in January in Saudi Arabia.
Following Japan's 2-1 friendly victory over New Zealand in Tokyo on Monday, Suzuki commented that during his initial participation, he performed poorly and led the team to a defeat.
