BIFF Becomes One of Only Six Major Festivals with Oscar Eligibility Pathway
The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has gained significant recognition by becoming one of only six major festivals, and the sole one from Asia, to offer a pathway for films to be considered for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
According to the South China Morning Post, Busan festival director Jung Han-seok stated, “This globally recognised industry benchmark ‘gives us clear and tangible external validation’,” in an email interview with the South China Morning Post. Jung Han-seok expressed hope that this acknowledgment will further bolster the confidence of international film professionals and filmmakers in BIFF, noting that the festival's international standing and value have long been widely recognized. More notably, as of the current year, BIFF is positioned as one of only six major festivals, and the only one originating from Asia, to offer a pathway for eligibility for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
