Bride Marries Despite Father's Hospitalization, Shares Special Moment on Ward
Sinèad Jackson chose to spend part of her wedding day with her father, Leslie Healy, who was hospitalized with heart problems just before her ceremony in Greater Manchester.
According to BBC UK, Sinèad Jackson, who was scheduled to marry her partner of 19 years, Stephen, on October 10 at the Village Hotel in Hyde, Greater Manchester, decided to spend a portion of her wedding day on her father's hospital ward after Leslie Healy was admitted to Tameside General Hospital. Sinèad, who is 36 and from Dukinfield, stated that she had always dreamed of having her father walking her down the aisle. She met her now-husband Stephen at college when they were both 17, and the couple have been engaged since 2015 - and after finally deciding to tie the knot earlier this year, Sinèad said they could not wait for their big day to arrive.
Sinèad visited her father in the hospital to be with him on the day of her wedding. She showed her dress to Leslie and they shared their father-daughter dance. Sinèad mentioned that she fought back her tears for her father because she felt she could not cry, and Leslie kept apologizing to her.
Sinèad recalled that she learned her father was unwell when her mother contacted her. After visiting him the day before the ceremony, Sinèad knew he would not be able to leave his ward, as a nurse explained the high risk involved in him leaving, even for a short time. Leslie advised his daughter to proceed with the wedding despite his absence, stating he would look at the pictures and videos.
Sinèad organized a visit with her mother and wedding photographer Jen the day before the ceremony, arriving at the hospital at 15:00 GMT, one hour before the ceremony. She mentioned that she walked straight from the hotel with the sole focus on her father. The hospital staff assisted in making the visit better, with some staff taking pictures and videos as they entered the ward.
Sinèad's wedding proceeded smoothly afterward, although she was slightly late for the ceremony. She noted that her younger son, Maxie, gave her away on behalf of his grandfather, and all necessary people were present for her. Leslie Healy has since been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home, and Sinèad stated he is very pleased with the photos.
