Caribbean climate-health plan builds on earlier reported gains

Kaieteur News reports that a new 2026–2031 Caribbean health and climate plan was endorsed after the previous plan’s reported outputs, including training more than 2,500 health professionals across 15 countries. The updated framework was shaped by consultations in 2025–2026 and is to be implemented by countries with PAHO/WHO support.

Kaieteur News reports that the 2019–2023 plan’s reported achievements included Health National Adaptation Plans, training for more than 2,500 health professionals across 15 countries, expanded multi-hazard early warning systems in seven countries, and health facilities in seven countries brought up to PAHO’s SMART (Safe and Green) standards. These are results attributed to the earlier plan, not outcomes reported for the new framework.

Ministers of Health from CARICOM Members and Associate Member States endorsed the 2026–2031 Caribbean Action Plan on Health and Climate Change at the 53rd Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development, Health, at PAHO Headquarters in Washington, D.C., ahead of the 63rd PAHO Directing Council. Member State consultations shaping the updated plan took place between 2025 and 2026, including virtual consultations, an in-person meeting in Bridgetown, Barbados, and technical reviews. Endorsement precedes implementation: the source says countries will lead that work, with PAHO/WHO support.
