Cheung Yin-fa Rejects Claims of Gambling Debts, Accuses Alex Kwong of Unscrupulous Behavior

Cheung Yin-fa, the mother of Abby Choi Tin-fung, has denied that gambling debts led to her family being harassed by debt collectors, dismissing claims from Alex Kwong as false. She further accused Kwong of acting unscrupulously by demanding repayment of shopping expenses while not repaying over HK$70 million received from Choi for investment.

According to the South China Morning Post, Cheung Yin-fa stated in court that she gambled up to HK$100,000 at mahjong parlors for what she described as 'entertainment,' but she refuted the assertion that debts caused her family to be subjected to harassment by debt collectors, labeling the claim made by her former son-in-law as 'a pack of lies.'

Testifying in the High Court for the fifth day, Cheung Yin-fa leveled accusations against Alex Kwong Kong-chi, alleging that he was acting unscrupulously by requesting the return of HK$150,000 (US$19,113) for shopping expenses she owed him, while simultaneously failing to repay more than HK$70 million that he had received from Choi for investment.

Cheung also rejected the defense's suggestion that her addiction to mahjong was so severe that Choi was compelled to pledge a property she had received as a wedding gift to secure a HK$4 million mortgage intended to settle her mother's debts.

Cheung appeared emotional while responding to the defense's assertion that Kwong, who reportedly operated a restaurant in mainland China and worked as a parallel betting agent in Macau, had assisted in repaying her debts and provided support over the years.
