China and EU Begin Trade Talks Amid Uncertainty Over Future Conflict
As China and the European Union commenced renewed trade discussions in Beijing, observers on both sides anticipate continued volatility while hoping to prevent a comprehensive trade dispute. Chinese businesses in Europe expressed hope for limited progress to stabilize the trade ties, contrasting with cautious views from European analysts.
According to the South China Morning Post, as China and the European Union initiated a new series of trade discussions in Beijing on Thursday, observers from both sides seemed to concur that a major breakthrough was improbable.
Chinese companies operating in Europe indicated that they were hopeful the talks might yield some "limited progress" to assist in stabilizing the trade relationship, whereas European analysts maintained a degree of caution regarding what the final outcome might be.
A Chinese source familiar with the discussions stated that some results were expected, further adding that EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic would not leave without achieving something.
The China Chamber of Commerce to the EU urged both parties to fully utilize the Trade and Investment Consultations (TIC) mechanism to address disagreements, advance solutions, and provide clearer indications to businesses.
