According to an announcement by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday, Liao Min, who serves as China's vice-minister of finance, has been appointed as the organization's next deputy managing director.

Liao Min is set to take over the role from Li Bo, who previously served as a deputy governor of the People’s Bank of China, with Li Bo's tenure concluding at the end of November. The South China Morning Post notes that it is currently uncertain whether Liao Min will resign from his post within the Chinese government prior to assuming the position in Washington.

Liao Min has held the role of China's vice-minister of finance since 2018 and has been involved in various rounds of trade talks between Beijing and Washington since US President Donald Trump launched his global trade war last year.
