Chinese Mathematicians Form Alliance to Integrate AI into Mathematical Research
Leading Chinese mathematicians established the Yau Laboratory Alliance for Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence in Beijing to integrate AI into mathematical research, with Shing-Tung Yau warning of a lag behind the United States.
According to the South China Morning Post, mathematicians from leading institutions in China convened in Beijing on Sunday to establish an alliance focused on incorporating artificial intelligence into mathematical research.
The Yau Laboratory Alliance for Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence is being led by Fields medallist Shing-Tung Yau, who expressed concern that China is trailing the United States in leveraging AI to push the boundaries of frontier science.
The alliance intends to unite eight prominent institutions and seeks to establish a network comprising over 1,000 scientists.
The focus of the alliance will involve creating specialized AI models for mathematics, employing this technology to formulate conjectures and formalize proofs, and constructing systems whose reasoning can be more readily understood.
