Chinese Wife Donates Kidney to Husband Despite Low Success Rate
According to the South China Morning Post, a 25-year-old Chinese wife named Liang donated her left kidney to her husband, Chung, who was suffering from uraemia, despite the procedure having a success rate below 10 per cent.
The South China Morning Post reports that Liang, who is 25 years old, donated her left kidney to her husband, Chung, at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University in September. Liang stated that she made the selfless donation because she did not want to lose him. The procedure carried a success rate of less than 10 per cent.
Chung, who is 33 years old, has a congenital megaureter, which is a condition involving an abnormally enlarged ureter that he has had since birth. He had been receiving consistent treatment for this condition, which subsequently developed into uraemia four years ago.
Despite Chung's health issues, Liang married him in January of last year and subsequently gave birth to their son shortly thereafter. Liang mentioned that after being abandoned by her parents following a divorce, she was raised by her grandmother, and she found the love and family she sought with Chung.
