Civil Service Chief States Disciplinary Action Possible If Officials Named in Future Investigation
The Civil Service Chief indicated that disciplinary measures could be initiated against public servants if an upcoming investigation report identifies individuals who acted inadequately or if prima facie evidence is established.
According to the South China Morning Post, Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan stated on Saturday that disciplinary action would not be ruled out if any public servants are named in a forthcoming investigation report.
She informed a radio program that if the investigation report clearly identifies an individual official and specifies inadequate actions taken by that person, or if prima facie evidence is established, she would not exclude the possibility of initiating disciplinary action directly.
Furthermore, Secretary Yeung Ho Poi-yan mentioned that if the primary issue identified is a system failure, the Public Service Commission might also examine the administrative responsibilities of the officials.
Additionally, she noted that a support unit is being established to aid the Public Service Commission should investigations into officials' "administrative responsibilities" eventually commence.
