Commentator Wong Kwok-ngon Denies Unlawfully Revealing Police Meeting Details Online
A Hong Kong news commentator, Wong Kwok-ngon, has stated in court that the specifics of his meeting with national security officers were already public before he shared them on YouTube, while facing charges related to national security law violations.
According to the South China Morning Post, Wong Kwok-ngon, a 72-year-old news commentator who operates a YouTube channel using the pseudonym Wong On-yin, has asserted in the Hong Kong District Court that the particulars of his encounter with national security officers were already in the public domain prior to his discussion of them on YouTube.
Wong Kwok-ngon is the first individual in Hong Kong to face prosecution for allegedly compromising an investigation into national security offenses through the unlawful disclosure of details from a police interview.
In addition to this charge, he has also been accused of knowingly disseminating seditious materials in connection with videos that covered both local and international news.
