Construction Worker Sentenced to Life for Killing Bus Driver Over Smoking Dispute in Kowloon Bay
A High Court jury found Tam Yun-chiu, 52, guilty of the murder of Ho Lok-man, 48, after an altercation began when Ho confronted Tam about smoking while they were waiting for a lift at Amoy Gardens in Kowloon Bay on September 19, 2023. Tam has been sentenced to life in prison.
According to the South China Morning Post, a construction worker has received a life sentence for the murder of a man who had confronted him regarding smoking while they were waiting for an elevator at a private residential complex in Hong Kong.
A High Court jury determined on Tuesday that Tam Yun-chiu, aged 52, was guilty of causing the death of Ho Lok-man after hearing that Tam repeatedly struck the victim in the face, caused him to fall to the ground, and then kicked his head onto the podium floor of Amoy Gardens in Kowloon Bay on September 19, 2023.
Ho, who was a 48-year-old bus driver at the time, became involved in a disagreement with Tam subsequent to Tam being reprimanded for smoking while they were waiting for the lift.
Security camera footage reportedly demonstrated that Tam pursued Ho after they exited the lift. The assault reportedly commenced with Tam pushing Ho against a railing, followed by repeated kicks to Ho's head after he fell to the ground.
