Yorkshire has officially entered a drought status on Friday, a move made after several months characterized by unusually dry weather, according to the BBC UK. The Environment Agency (EA) stated that the declaration was prompted by diminished water levels in both rivers and reservoirs, even though some parts of the region had experienced recent rainfall.

Previously, the area had been categorized as experiencing a period of prolonged dry weather.

Yorkshire Water indicated that it does not intend to implement water restrictions for its customers at this time, despite the drought declaration. Andy Shaw, who serves as the head of water production, treatment, and energy at Yorkshire Water, commented that the EA's determination reflected the dry conditions throughout the region but suggested that water restrictions were not currently necessary.

EA manager Vicki Townend noted that Yorkshire had experienced its fifth driest period on record spanning from April through September.
