Eight Public Service Officers Referred to Police Following Property Transaction Review
Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing informed parliament that eight public service officers have been referred to the Singapore police subsequent to a review of property transactions involving 191 officers. The review found officers in rail planning agencies purchased property near unannounced MRT stations between 2007 and 2014.
According to the South China Morning Post, Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing advised parliament that eight public service officers have been referred to the Singapore police after a review encompassing the property transactions of 191 officers.
The review, which followed a working paper from the US-based National Bureau of Economic Research that highlighted 2007 to 2011 as a period of concern, had its scope extended by the Public Service Division (PSD) to 2014 as a precautionary measure. This extension was made because numerous new MRT station locations were being announced after 2011, as stated by Chan on Tuesday.
PSD determined, based on administrative records, that officers within agencies involved in rail planning had acquired property between 2007 and 2014 that was situated near locations subsequently announced as MRT stations.
