According to the South China Morning Post, emergency services were dispatched to a flat at One Madison, a residential building located on Castle Peak Road in Cheung Sha Wan, following a report of an unusual odor. Security personnel at the building alerted authorities at approximately 5:20 pm after noticing the odor and observing that the occupants had not been seen for a period.

Firefighters were subsequently called to the location and made forced entry into the flat. The South China Morning Post reported that an 81-year-old man was discovered deceased within the bathroom, while his wife, who is 73 years old, was located in the kitchen area and was found in a semi-conscious state, subsequently being transported to Caritas Medical Centre.
