Leicestershire Police reported that a father and son are in life-threatening condition after being stabbed multiple times by two masked men who entered their family home in Thurnby. The attack, which police described as appearing unprovoked, also resulted in minor injuries to the mother.
According to BBC UK, Leicestershire Police stated that a father and son are hospitalized in critical condition following an assault at their residence, which appeared to be unprovoked. Officers were dispatched to a disturbance reported at a house on Station Road, Thurnby, just before 00:30 BST on Thursday.
The force reported that two masked individuals entered the property and stabbed the man, who is in his 50s, and the 15-year-old boy multiple times; both remain in critical condition in the hospital. The wife and mother, a woman in her 40s, sustained minor injuries to her hand and shoulder during the incident. Three other children present at the address were not injured.
Police indicated that armed officers were deployed due to public and police safety concerns, but the assailants had departed the house before their arrival. The force noted that an investigation, which will be managed by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), will continue over the weekend to ascertain the motive and circumstances of the event. Police also stated they would maintain a presence in the area while officers conduct searches to aid in identifying those responsible.
Det Insp Lorna Granville commented that the incident constituted a violent assault on a family within their own home that seemed entirely unprovoked, adding that the investigation into the horrific criminal act and the identification of those involved would proceed throughout the weekend.
