Firefighters Combat Flames at Hitler's 'Eagle's Nest' Retreat; Suspect Detained
Firefighters worked on Saturday to extinguish fires that damaged Adolf Hitler's 'Eagle's Nest' mountain retreat in the Bavarian Alps, while police held a suspect who investigators suggested might have psychiatric issues.
Based on reporting by South China Morning Post:
Firefighters were engaged in efforts to control flames that swept through the former guest house used by high-ranking Nazi officials, which is situated at an altitude of 1,834 metres (6,000 feet) in the Bavarian Alps. The incident was reported late on Friday. As snow was falling on the Alpine summit, the Eagle's Nest remained engulfed in fire at the start of Saturday, and fire chief Michael Brandl stated during a press conference that the final parts of the blaze were being addressed throughout the afternoon. Brandl also mentioned that no one had entered the structure due to concerns regarding its potential collapse. Concurrently, police detained a suspect, whom investigators indicated may have psychiatric problems, while the firefighting operations were underway on Saturday.
