The South China Morning Post reported that five public universities in Hong Kong have been placed within the top 100 of a recent global league table published by a renowned British publication, which is being characterized as a "historic realignment" of academic strength moving from the West toward the East.
In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings released on Wednesday, the University of Hong Kong maintained its status as the highest-ranked tertiary institution in the city, holding the 33rd position, which was the same as the previous year.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was ranked 42nd, representing a decrease from its ranking of 41st in the prior year. Concurrently, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology held its position at 58.
CUHK stated that it attained full marks across five primary performance indicators: research excellence, patents, research and institutional income, research productivity, and the percentage of international staff. Furthermore, the university noted significant improvements in its teaching reputation, student-staff ratio, and the proportion of international students.
