According to the South China Morning Post, a former construction executive and her husband, who is a hotelier, have launched a resort in the cool, misty north of Bali after spending three decades in Hong Kong. Cheryl Kwok, a native Singaporean and former Hong Kong resident, mentioned that the temperature was approximately 23 degrees Celsius [73 degrees Fahrenheit] on a recent overcast afternoon. She also mentioned that the rainy season is nearing its start, which brings some drizzle, and that nighttime temperatures could fall to between 14 or 16 degrees Celsius.

Kwok, who previously lived in Canggu, explained that the couple visited the area during the COVID-19 pandemic. After spending several days there and visiting the Handara Golf & Resort, which is situated within an ancient volcanic caldera, she found the area beautiful. She noted that at that time, there were no suitable luxurious accommodations or decent restaurants nearby, which led to her idea to construct a resort. The couple opened their new venture, Buyan Lakeside Villas, in Bali, offering amenities such as heated swimming pools and sweater weather.
