According to BBC UK, a former Scotland rugby international is set to face trial on allegations of controlling, abusing, and raping a woman. The charges against Tim Visser reportedly cover a span of 14 years, with alleged incidents occurring in Edinburgh and other locations between 2010 and 2024.

Two of the four charges involve claims that the 39-year-old, who earned 33 caps for Scotland, raped the woman on multiple occasions, including allegations that he had sexual relations with her after consent had been withdrawn.

A separate charge alleges that the individual, who previously played for Newcastle Falcons, Edinburgh, and Harlequins, repeatedly exhibited threatening and abusive conduct toward the woman. These accusations include claims that Visser took intimate images of her without her consent.

It was reported that Visser was said to have been aggressive, sent her unwanted calls and texts, monitored her whereabouts, and controlled her choices regarding her appearance, finances, clothing, and diet. Prosecutors further assert that Visser, who is from Milton Bridge, Midlothian, isolated the woman from her family and friends and was physically violent.

A fourth charge pertains to a pattern of abusive conduct against the woman on various occasions. The accusation details a total of 26 distinct claims, some of which are similar to the threatening behavior allegation but also encompass a series of sexual matters, including one instance where he allegedly sent an intimate image of the woman to another person.

The indictment also mentions that the prosecution might present evidence concerning other matters dating back to 2004, although these are not formal charges at this stage and reportedly feature claims of physical and sexual incidents, threats, and controlling behavior.

During proceedings at the High Court in Glasgow, Ian Duguid, representing the defense, stated that the plea to the indictment was one of not guilty. A trial date was established for January 12, 2028, in Edinburgh.

The ex-rugby star was noted to have been born in the Netherlands but chose not to represent his home nation. Instead, he represented Scotland as a winger from 2012 to 2017 before retiring from the sport two years later.
