A gas leak, which occurred after a Peugeot car struck the window of Tiger Rock Restaurant in Liverpool city centre, has resulted in road closures and the evacuation of adjacent buildings, reports BBC UK.

Merseyside Police stated that the event took place around 12:30 GMT on North John Street when the Peugeot car made contact with the restaurant's window. The police indicated that the driver remained at the location and there is no evidence to suggest the incident was intentional.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service reported that three individuals who were inside the restaurant when the crash happened were evaluated for minor injuries.

A spokesperson mentioned that the impact caused a gas leak, leading firefighters and the police to establish a cordon. A structural engineer and a gas engineer are expected to arrive at the scene.

As a precautionary measure, neighboring buildings have been evacuated, and road closures are active at the intersection of Dale Street and North John Street, as well as at the junction of North John Street and Lord Street.

Furthermore, Wirral Metro services have been temporarily rerouted, with all services concluding at Whitechapel and commencing their return trip from Sir Thomas Street.
