Gorton says burglary came about 20 minutes after holiday post
Paul Gorton said his Cheshire home was burgled on 28 August about 20 minutes after he posted at 21:10 BST from a family holiday. He suspects the burglary was targeted, but the evidence does not establish that his post led to it. Separately, an investigator identified seven addresses from public information about nine volunteers.
BBC UK reports that Paul Gorton said he posted from his family holiday at 21:10 BST and that his Cheshire home was broken into about 20 minutes later. The burglary took place on 28 August; Gorton discovered it when he returned. A bike and sentimental belongings, including a ring from his wife Kate’s grandmother, were stolen. Cheshire Police said the investigation was ongoing and no arrests had been made.
Gorton suspects the burglary was targeted, citing the police description of it as a “one-off hit”; that is his belief, not evidence that his post led to the break-in. Separately, Compare the Market commissioned a licensed private investigator to examine publicly available digital footprints for nine volunteers. The investigator identified seven home addresses, with the first lead found in 50 seconds and the quickest address identified in 15 minutes. Those findings concern the volunteers’ public information and do not show how the burglars found Gorton’s address.
