Guangdong Yachts Set to Sail into Hong Kong Waters Under New Travel Scheme
A new travel scheme announced by the city's transport minister will permit yachts registered in Guangdong to enter Hong Kong waters starting next Friday, allowing them to dock at specific locations.
According to the South China Morning Post, a new travel scheme will permit yachts registered in Guangdong to sail into Hong Kong waters beginning next Friday. The city's transport minister confirmed this development.
Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan stated in a weekly blog on Saturday that the inaugural voyage ceremony for the Southbound Yacht Travel Scheme is scheduled for the launch day. She noted that this Southbound Yacht Travel Scheme builds upon the foundation established by the Northbound Yacht Travel Scheme, representing a two-way connection in maritime travel.
Chan's announcement followed the signing of work arrangements last month between the Marine Department and the Guangdong Maritime Safety Administration, which established the framework for cross-boundary yacht travel between the two regions. The scheme will enable Guangdong yachts to berth at designated spots within Hong Kong, and approximately 300 mainland yacht masters are already certified to navigate the local waters.
