Guyana’s Village Plan Starts With 23 Communities, Ali Says
President Dr Irfaan Ali describes the next four years as a period to build on six years of groundwork. The Model Village initiative’s first phase is expected to reach some 23 communities, with Ali saying the approach is intended eventually to extend to every community.
Guyana Times reports a staged scope for President Dr Irfaan Ali’s Model Village initiative: its first phase is expected to cover some 23 communities, while Ali says the approach is intended eventually for every community. The initiative was launched in August, and consultations have been held in identified villages in Regions Two through Six.
Ali places the village plan within a broader four-year agenda built on what he describes as six years of groundwork. He says that agenda combines social development and bringing communities together with transformative economic projects, including ambitions related to food, energy, biodiversity and climate services. The village initiative’s planned improvements include roads, drainage, irrigation systems and green spaces.
In a separate part of its article, Guyana Times describes Ali’s references to government tunnel-house, swine and shade-house projects as opportunities for young people. The article does not specify a formal relationship between those projects and the Model Village rollout.
