Hong Kong Hospital Authority Uses AI and Robotics in New Support Services Centre
Hong Kong's Hospital Authority has implemented artificial intelligence and robotic automation at its new support services centre to manage laundry and meal production for public hospitals, with the facility meeting approximately half of the requirements for public hospitals.
According to the South China Morning Post, Hong Kong's Hospital Authority has integrated artificial intelligence (AI) and robotic automation into its new support services centre, which is designed to enhance efficiency and improve worker safety while managing the laundry and meal production for public hospitals.
The centre, which spans 62,000 square metres across six storeys and contains the central laundry and food production unit, was presented to the press on Tuesday, marking its first public appearance since commencing operations in March of last year.
This facility, situated in Tung Chung on Lantau Island, is capable of fulfilling about half of the laundry and meal needs of public hospitals. The operations utilize technologies such as X-ray sorting, robotic arms, and "cook-chill" kitchen technology. An official stated that automation has significantly enhanced occupational safety and health by lessening the repetitive strain and heavy lifting that workers previously faced.
