Hong Kong Introduces Four-Step AI 'Talent Ladder' to Address Job Shock
Hong Kong has introduced a four-step artificial intelligence (AI) 'talent ladder' strategy intended to mitigate job shock among entry-level workers and cultivate industry leaders, with Permanent Secretary Kevin Choi stating the government views AI as a catalyst rather than a threat.
According to the South China Morning Post, Hong Kong has announced a four-step strategy concerning artificial intelligence (AI) talent, which is designed to counteract job shock affecting entry-level positions and to help develop industry leaders. The government perceives AI as a catalyst for change, not a threat.
Permanent Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Kevin Choi Kit-ming cautioned on Monday that the 'entry-level shock' is a genuine concern because AI has demonstrated proficiency in numerous routine tasks that previously constituted a graduate's initial employment, including basic coding and frontline customer service.
Speaking at the Global Youth Powerhouse Summit for young technology leaders, Choi mentioned that the government is making investments in AI on a 'population scale.' The objective is to improve general digital literacy across the population, rather than to protect young individuals from the technology.
