According to the South China Morning Post, lawmakers and leaders from the engineering sector have advocated for a review of Hong Kong's current building inspection system and the implementation of a blacklist to prevent problematic contractors from securing government contracts, subsequent to problems at the Kwun Tong project.

On Friday, lawmakers and engineers stated that the government ought to examine the inspection framework and boost its supervisory personnel, suggesting that inspectors should be permanently assigned to the construction sites of subsidized public housing estates built by private entities, rather than depending on random checks.

The demand arose after the Buildings Department announced on Thursday that it had authorized property developer CK Asset Holding to demolish and reconstruct three out of the six blocks at the Anderson Road development in Kwun Tong, while remedial work proceeded on the remaining structures.

Prior investigations revealed that the steel reinforcement in sections of the towers differed substantially from the approved designs, indicating that fewer reinforcement bars were utilized than what was mandated.
