Hong Kong Records 439,532 Mainland Arrivals Over Mid-Autumn Weekend
Immigration Department figures cited by the South China Morning Post show 439,532 mainland arrivals among 1.73 million total arrivals over the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival weekend. For the separate seven-day National Day holiday beginning Thursday, the department forecasts about 1.29 million mainland visitors, with the daily average expected to be 5 per cent higher than last year.
The South China Morning Post reported that mainland visitors accounted for 439,532 of Hong Kong’s 1.73 million arrivals from Friday to Sunday, about a quarter of the three-day total. The weekend count is recorded arrivals; it is separate from the Immigration Department’s projection for the next holiday period.
For the seven-day National Day holiday, which begins Thursday, the department expects about 1.29 million mainland visitors. That estimate represents a 5 per cent increase in the daily average compared with last year, not a comparison of total arrivals across holiday periods of different lengths.
The mainland’s three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday ran from Friday to Sunday. Residents taking three additional leave days from Monday to Wednesday could combine the breaks into 13 consecutive days off.
