Indonesian Envoy Suggestion: Hong Kong and Indonesia Can Enhance Green Finance Cooperation
Indonesia's special envoy for international trade stated that Hong Kong and Indonesia have the potential to deepen their collaboration in green finance as their relationship grows, and noted that Hong Kong's common law knowledge can aid Indonesia's drive to attract family offices.
According to the South China Morning Post, Indonesia's special envoy for international trade, Mari Elka Pangestu, indicated that the strengthening relationship between Hong Kong and Indonesia allows for deeper cooperation in the area of green finance. Pangestu also mentioned that the city's proficiency in common law and its financial services capabilities could assist Indonesia in its initiatives to draw in family offices.
Speaking to reporters before a lecture at the University of Hong Kong on Wednesday, Pangestu noted that Hong Kong has served as an important channel for directing investments from mainland China into the Asean region. She added that ties between the city and the Asean bloc have flourished following initiatives by the Hong Kong government to engage with the Asean market, pointing out that the region constitutes the city's second-largest trading partner.
Mari Elka Pangestu holds the position of the Indonesian president’s special envoy for international trade and multilateral cooperation, and she is also a vice-chairwoman of the nation's National Economic Council.
