Kyrie Irving Absent from Mavericks' Pre-season Game Against Rockets in Macau
The South China Morning Post reported that Kyrie Irving did not participate in the Dallas Mavericks' pre-season game against the Houston Rockets in Macau, though the contest was part of the NBA China Games. Irving is expected to return after an injury break that started in March of the previous year, and the Mavericks have appointed Dusty May as their new head coach.
According to the South China Morning Post, fans in Macau had to wait longer to see Kyrie Irving in the Dallas Mavericks' uniform, as he was absent from the team's 135-117 pre-season loss to the Houston Rockets on Friday. Despite Irving's absence, the two Texas teams provided entertainment for the thousands who attended the second year of the NBA China Games at The Venetian Arena.
When the 34-year-old player eventually returns following an injury break that commenced in March of the prior year, he will be under the direction of a new head coach, Dusty May, who is transitioning from collegiate to professional basketball this season. May expressed excitement about seeing the veteran guard back on the court, while also noting that the "unbelievable leader" had been a valuable asset during his recovery from a torn left ACL sustained in a game against the Sacramento Kings.
